Patient information

Before your appointment

Everything you need to know about fees, insurance, cancellations, what to bring and how results reach your GP. If a question is not answered here, call 01 524 0568.

Fees

Cervino Medical is a private clinic. Consultation fees are confirmed when your appointment is booked, before you attend, so there are no surprises on the day. The first consultation is longer than a follow-up and is priced accordingly.

Tests such as blood tests, EEG, nerve conduction studies, scans and sleep studies are carried out by the host hospital and billed by the hospital, not by Cervino. Procedures performed in clinic, such as botulinum toxin injections, are quoted separately in advance.

Payment is taken at the clinic on the day by card. You receive an itemised receipt for your insurer or for tax relief on medical expenses.

Health insurance

Most Irish health insurance plans, including VHI, Laya Healthcare and Irish Life Health, contribute towards private consultant fees on an outpatient basis and many cover diagnostic tests in full or in part. How much depends on your plan and, for some plans, on an annual excess.

Because plans differ, check your policy or call your insurer before your appointment, quoting the consultant and the type of consultation. You pay the clinic and claim back from your insurer using the receipt we give you. Some tests at the host hospital can be billed directly to your insurer.

Cancellations and changes

If you need to cancel or move an appointment, call the clinic as early as you can, ideally at least two working days beforehand, so the slot can be offered to another patient who is waiting. Missed appointments and very late cancellations may be charged.

If you are running late, call us. We will do our best to see you, but a consultation that starts late may need to be shortened or rebooked.

What to bring

Your GP referral letter if it has not already been sent through Healthlink. A list of your current medicines, including doses, and any recent blood test or scan results. Your health insurance details. Glasses or hearing aids if you use them.

For neurology appointments a written note or a phone video of the episodes you are being seen for, and a headache or seizure diary if you keep one. For endocrinology appointments your glucose readings or monitoring app, and recent blood results. A family member or friend is welcome, and is often helpful for memory assessments.

Results and letters to your GP

After every consultation the consultant writes to your GP with the diagnosis, the plan, any prescriptions and the monitoring your GP should carry out. Test results are reviewed by the consultant and discussed with you at follow-up or by phone if they change the plan sooner. You can ask for a copy of any letter.

Prescriptions issued by the consultant can usually be continued by your GP. If a medicine needs specialist monitoring, the letter says so.

Data protection

We do not sell or share your information for marketing. You have the right to access, correct and, in some circumstances, erase your data under GDPR.

Our privacy policy explains the legal basis for processing, how long records are kept and how to make a request. Questions about your data can be sent to info@cervino.ie.
